Our post Christmas walk in the Killiney Hill area was held on a bright and clear day. The route from the main car park followed tracks to the obelisk and around the back of the hill above the golf club, before descending past Bono’s house to the beach for a brief stop for drinks and snacks. A gentle walk along the beach at low tide in beautiful sunshine brought us to White Rock cove. Here the “serious” climbing began where many steps led up to the tower to admire the view towards Dalkey and Dublin Bay.
After escaping the chaotic car park – a depot for recycling Christmas Trees – we had some refreshments in Killiney Castle Hotel dungeons before returning to the Rectory for a magnificent supper, for which we thank John and Vera for their hospitality.
It should be mentioned that before the walk Bob Willis presented Donald with a magnificent walking stick made by his son. It will be twirled with pride in future walks!
