150th Anniversary May Celebration Service – an appreciation

We were delighted to have had the Archbishop as our Celebrant and preacher on this important milestone occasion for our Church which was held on Sunday 4th May. We were also delighted to welcome back three former Rectors and their wives for this joyous occasion, together with the relatives of a further two former Rectors. The Church was filled to capacity as the Archbishop reminded us that, “For a parish to mark a significant milestone in its life and development, such as 150 years of its existence, is an important and a risky thing to do. It is important because, if you don’t do it, you have missed a significant opportunity in your own lifetime; it is risky because, if you do do it, you really have to open yourselves to the uncomfortable questions around what you have done and what you have not done – and why both have been the case.” It is hoped that in October we will grapple further with this as part of our planned Parish Forum.

During the course of the Service a number of gifts were dedicated which included; Hymn Books, Prayer Books, Closed Loop Hearing System, Electric Piano, Video/Sound Link with the Parish Hall, Chalice and Paten, Wedding Candle Stand, Floodlighting for the Church, Pew Kneelers, Brass rail at the Chancel Steps, Altar Kneelers, new and refurbished chairs and folding tables.

After the Service a canapé reception was held in the Parish Hall. Thanks to all who made this Service a success including our organist and director of music, Paul McNulty and to our existing and visiting choir members. Also to Patricia Stewart for organising the warden duties, to the floral decorating team under the direction of Janet Moore and Brigid FitzSimon and to the catering team under the direction of Susan O’Kane.
