The issue of homelessness has been repeatedly highlighted in various media over the past year since the death of Jonathan Corrie. Within the last week a further 100 beds have been made available for those sleeping rough. This is good news – but the reality is that it is nowhere enough to cover the ever-increasing demand for such services. In addition, government proposals to provide some 20 modular family accommodation units before Christmas has met with difficulties and that target cannot be met as the construction company involved has pulled their work-force off site due to the protests of local residents.
In recognition of the ongoing problem of homelessness, the annual ‘Green Jar’ Advent Appeal will support the work of the Simon Community. In addition, ‘Simon’ will be the beneficiary of a ‘Coffee Morning’ which will be held in the Rectory between 10:00am and 12:30pm on Saturday 12th December. Support from parishioners and the wider community for this worthy cause would be very greatly appreciated.
