Adult Badminton
Word of our prowess has reached the ‘Northside’ – Clontarf (St. John the Baptist) challenged us to make the trip over for an informal series of games to start the season off; every excuse was made to get out of it as it was so early in the season, but they wore us down and a motley and apprehensive bunch met in Tullow car park to venture forth. Spirits were temporarily raised when we got stuck at the Eastlink Bridge, but alas, it cleared and we continued on to to our destination.
After John & Michael softened them up in the 1st and difficult game, our secret weapon Noel ably assisted by Alan scored a convincing win for Tullow (21-10). After some more well-fought – but unsuccessful – games (by Mandy, Susan, Jonathan, Nigel and the manager), Noel struck again, this time with the help of Jonathan (21-12). Finally, Noel gave an exhibition game with one of their members – winning once again – before we were treated to a very tasty supper. Many thanks to their coordinator Pam Watts and her very welcoming team in Clontarf for this lovely evening!
Notwithstanding the Clontarf experience, the Season has got off to great start with a record attendance of 16 on the 10th October, which might even be surpassed when we officially launch the season over dinner in Morels on Friday 8th November. New members always welcome, just arrive at 8:30pm on a Thursday (no racquet necessary)
