Palm Sunday begins the Great Week of the Christian Year. During Lent, we have been preparing by works of love and self-sacrifice for the celebration of the Lord’s death and resurrection.
With Christians througout the world, we come together during Holy Week to call to mind, and to express in word and actioin, the centre of the Easter mystery: our Lord’s Passover from death to life.
Christ entered in triumph into the Holy City to complete his work as Messiah: to suffer, to die and to rise to new life.
Today and every day, we commit ourselves to walk the way of the cross, so that, sharing in his sufferings, we may be united with him in his risen life.
Our Holy Week services on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will reflect on some of the people who were standing and praying around the cross when Jesus died.
While we acknowledge the depth of sadness and apparent hopelessness of Christ’s death, we know in our hearts that God’s word prevails against all evil and that Jesus will rise from the dead to life eternal which offers each and every one of us everlasting hope, that in walking with Jesus, we too will experience the joy, happiness and everlasting life that is part of being a believer and friend of Jesus Christ.
Join with us this Holy Week and live again the way of the Cross – open your eyes, your hearts and your minds to the never-ending joy, love and hope that is Jesus Christ.
