Golf Outing review

The sun shone brightly on Thursday 22 June, when 10 teams of 3 players set off to play in the annual Parish Golf Outing. This excellent turnout was playing at a new venue for the event, Rathfarnham Golf Club.

Most of the players who were new to the course, dealt quite well with the various “water holes”, although some were heard to comment that they might play them on the next occasion using an older ball!!

Some ten guests joined with the players for dinner after the day’s play. During the evening a special thanks and a small token was presented to Jim Finlay in recognition of all his work running this outing over the previous years. After dinner Vera Tanner presented the prizes to the 30 players. Thanks to the generosity of those attending, who had donated various bottles and other
assorted prizes, all players came away with a prize.

The format of the stableford competition was a “Team of Three” where the best two scores on each team counted on holes 1 to 17 and all 3 players’ scores counted on the 18th. The overall event was won by Les Ellis’ Team, comprising himself, Simon Murray and Brendan Crawford with an excellent team score of 85 points. Runner up was Donald Gill’s Team with a team score of 78 points. His team included his wife, Deirdre and Terry Forsyth. In third place was Don Beck’s team which included Doug Notley and James O’Hanrahan with a score of 73 points.

Many thanks to Terry Forsyth and Hilary Cran for organising such a successful and enjoyable event.
