Great Sugar Loaf Climb details for Sunday 25th May

Sunday 25th May. Meet in Church Car Park at 11.30am after Morning Service. Transport: Car sharing with maximum number in cars as parking is limited at Sugar Loaf Car Park. Access by turning left at top of Long Hill about half a kilometre down the side turn on South side of mountain.

This is a family day out!

The plan is that able bodied persons and children, who are especially welcome, will climb to the summit. (Terrain not suitable for infants and minimum age of 5/6 is suggested). Others will walk up the track to a designated picnic spot on the shoulder immediately below the summit. We will all meet for a picnic at this spot.

Gear etc: Small rucksack, Picnic lunch, i.e. sandwich, fruit, bars, hot and/or cold drink etc, Warm clothes, waterproof jacket, Woolly hat, gloves and hiking boots or sturdy runners.

The upper section of the Great Sugar Loaf is quite steep with some loose scree followed by a rocky scramble up secure rock. Assistance will be given if required. Views from the summit are magnificent!

All plans are subject to suitable weather conditions and may be modified if necessary.

In this country all mountain walks can be subjected to 4 seasons in one day. For this reason the date has been changed from that as originally advertised as warmer weather should be expected.
