Tullow Church of Ireland Parish Development Worker

Tullow is a Church of Ireland parish in the Foxrock/Carrickmines area of south Dublin. The area is rapidly changing due to new housing developments and related demographics. In order to grow and develop the parish and enhance its position in the local community the Parish wishes to engage a Development Worker.
Role and Function
In order to achieve the above aims priorities are
  • to work towards enhancing the place of the church in the local community
  • to actively engage with the existing congregation – both regular and irregular attenders
  • grow numbers of parishioners
  • encourage involvement of families with special emphasis on those new to the area
The role may involve aspects of lay ministry such as working with the Rector to develop and lead worship which is relevant to the local community.
The Person
In order to be successful in the role we believe that the successful candidate will have
  • strong communication and networking skills enabling effective communication across the whole community in the catchment area
  • ability to listen, empathise with, and relate to people of all age groups and backgrounds
  • the ability to bring people together towards a common objective
  • creative thinking and good problem-solving ability
  • the ability to plan, organise and complete activities to deadlines
  • the capability of working as a team player, be highly motivated, enthusiastic with the ability to use their initiative
Background and Experience
The successful candidate will demonstrate
  • a strong commitment to, and practice of, a personal Christian faith
  • a proven interest in, and understanding of, the role of faith in community and social issues
  • the ability to relate to a wide range of ages and backgrounds
  • experience of a range of worship styles and their relevance to people’s faith needs
  • experience in a community role – this is desirable although not essential
  • flexibility – the ability to adapt to a changing environment
Terms and Conditions
  • This is a part-time role with a requirement for 24 hours a week
  • The successful candidate will be considered as self-employed for the purposes of the contract and will not be an employee of Tullow Parish or the RCB of the Church of Ireland
  • The successful candidate will report to the Rector and a sub-committee as nominated by the Select Vestry
  • A monthly fee of €2,000 will be paid on receipt of invoices and supporting documentation. The successful candidate will be responsible for their own taxation and PRSI obligations
  • The initial contract will be for a 12-month period starting in September 2019. The contract may be renewed for a further 12 months subject to mutual agreement. There will be a review at the end of the initial three months
  • The successful candidate will be subject to Garda vetting prior to starting in September
